Dolphins to name Oden secondary coach

The Miami Dolphins will hire Tony Oden as their new defensive backs coach, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Oden will take the place of Lou Anarumo, who was dismissed by the Dolphins and wound up on the staff of New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur. Every major newspaper in South Florida confirmed Oden’s hiring.

The 44-year-old Oden spent the past four seasons as defensive backs/cornerbacks coach for the Detroit Lions, who fired head coach Jim Caldwell after the season. He will be replaced by New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia.

Prior to joining the Lions, Oden was the secondary/cornerbacks coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 and the defensive backs coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.

He also was a secondary coach with the New Orleans Saints (2006-11) and Houston Texans (2004-05).
